Description
L-tyrosine is part of amino acids that are building blocks used to synthesize protein. Tyrosine is produced from phenylalanine amino acid by the body.
Proteins are made up of different types of amino acids but tyrosine is considered to be the primary amino acid, amongst other amino acid making proteins, as it helps in the production of neurotransmitters.
L-tyrosine is used to treat phenylketonuria disorder as it is the main ingredient in a protein supplement. Individuals suffering from this condition cannot properly process phenylalanine and hence lack tyrosine in their body. For the body to have the essential amino acid, tyrosine supplement is given to anyone with a low level.
According to some research, l-tyrosine affects the brain directly. Also, tyrosine is an imparting pigment agent for the human skin.
According to medical researchers, l-tyrosine is an essential building block of several hormones in the human body; hence, it is important that you get enough iron from your diet as it is a vital requirement in the production of an enzyme known as phenylalanine hydroxylase - responsible for the synthesis of phenylalanine into l-tyrosine.
L-tyrosine is mainly considered an all-purpose amino acid due to its involvement in various vital functions in the body. Food rich in tyrosine should be consumed to keep it at an average level. Also, individuals should minimise stress as this can deplete tyrosine although the body tries to manage and balance its average level. Healthy l-tyrosine levels help in the reduction of depression, Parkinson’s disease, mood disorders, Alzheimer’s disease, and are excellent in making strong body muscles.
Some research suggests that l-tyrosine helps in fatigue relief as well as cognitive enhancement in humans. The amino acid plays an essential role by conveying various signals in the entire body, through a chemical made out of it, which acts as a messenger that alerts the cognitive system in the body. Also, l-tyrosine acts as a cortisol regulator which fortifies the immune system, and strengthens and provides nourishment to the various organs within the body. As a precursor of melanin, the amino acid also enhances the activities of both adrenal and pituitary glands, hence boosting the performance of these two glands resulting in the formation of the progesterone hormone.
L-tyrosine protects the nervous system from intoxication which may lead to decreased alertness. However, low tyrosine levels can damage the body’s organs, including leading to liver damage. The ability of the amino acid to cross the barrier of brain blood helps to increase the production of neurotransmitters. Different medical studies have revealed that l-tyrosine is useful in stress relief in situations such as death and prolonged work periods.
Right levels of l-tyrosine assist in the absorption of essential amino acids and the production of epinephrine and dopamine. A low level of the amino acid is seen to affect the performance of adrenal glands and have an adverse effect on the brain performance in humans.
Recent studies have proved that l-tyrosine supplements are actually treating individuals experiencing anxiety disorders. The power of the tyrosine to stimulate D2 receptors may assist in fighting underlying neurological anxiety causes; hence, daily intake of these amino acid supplements can help relieve the symptoms and effect anxiolytics 5-HTP.
